LiDAR and elevation data for South Africa

Restricted LiDAR exists but is not openly licensed: it is sold, released on request, or limited to non-commercial use.

The City of Cape Town holds airborne LiDAR (2018–2019 flights) and publishes a 5 m bare-earth Ground Level Map DEM through image services, with file copies supplied on request under a labour tariff; no openly licensed LiDAR was identified at national level. Elsewhere, users rely on global models such as Copernicus DEM GLO-30 (30 m, openly licensed) and FABDEM (non-commercial).
