Partial open imagery Open orthophotos or high-resolution imagery exist, but only for limited areas such as regions or cities.
Open aerial orthophotography is project-based: the Environment Agency publishes 10–50 cm RGB, NIR and four-band imagery since 2006 under the OGL as project-based captures rather than national coverage; no open national orthophoto layer was confirmed for the other UK nations.
| Area | Status | Summary | Datasets |
|---|---|---|---|
| England | Partial open imagery | The Environment Agency National LIDAR Programme captured all of England in 302 blocks between 2017 and 2023, published at 1 m with point clouds under the OGL. | Vertical Aerial Photography |
Free is not the same as open. Cost is what you pay to get the data; the licence says what you may do with it. How cost and licence are defined
